JOURNEY CHOI, CELLIST & FOUNDER

Bio

Journey Choi began as a pianist in Seoul before the cello became her instrument. At fourteen she made her solo debut with the Plano Symphony Orchestra, performing Saint-Saëns' Cello Concerto in A minor.

She went on to study at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Her early career took her to orchestras across the United States, in both section and principal chairs.

Teaching grew alongside performance. For more than a decade she taught in Plano ISD while building a high-level private studio — the first JC Cello Studio.

She later took the studio solo on electric cello, carrying her classical foundation into contemporary repertoire. Across more than twenty years of professional performance, JC Cello Studio became an established live music practice in Dallas. It has served weddings, restaurants, corporate clients and professional sports organizations, with a repertoire spanning classical, pop, R&B, rock, jazz and K-pop.

Alongside the stage, she mentored other musicians on building sustainable live music businesses.

Her current work centers on building: original recordings, a growing catalogue of arrangements, and tools for the people who bring live music into rooms. She lives in Dallas and is the mother of two sons.
